Our Story
Layer7 started in 2005 in Johannesburg, Gauteng — two engineers, a small office, and an obsessive focus on getting networks right. In those early days, we were a networking specialist: LAN/WAN design, routing, switching, the foundational plumbing that every organisation depends on but few truly understand.
As the threat landscape shifted, so did we. Clients who trusted us with their network infrastructure started asking harder questions: How do we stop what’s coming through? We didn’t bolt on security as an afterthought — we rebuilt our practice around it. Network security became our core, because you can’t secure what you don’t understand at the packet level.
We became a Palo Alto Networks partner early, when next-generation firewalling was still a new concept in Southern Africa. We earned Platinum status and Technical Partner of the Year — multiple times — not through sales volume alone, but through depth of technical delivery. We deploy complex architectures, resolve the escalations other partners can’t, and maintain environments others struggle to understand.
From there, we expanded into managed security services. A 24/7 Security Operations Centre. Managed Detection and Response. CISOaaS for organisations that need strategic security leadership without the permanent headcount. Each capability was added because clients needed it and we could deliver it at a level that matched our engineering standards.
Today, Layer7 is a full-spectrum cybersecurity firm serving 170+ organisations across Southern Africa. Financial services, higher education, telecommunications, public sector, healthcare, enterprise — each with distinct risk profiles, compliance requirements, and operational realities.

Layer7 is a small, senior team — not a body shop. We don’t staff projects with juniors and hope for the best. Our engineers hold certifications across Palo Alto (PCNSE, PCNSA, PSE), CrowdStrike (CCFR, CCFA), Fortinet (NSE), and broader industry frameworks.
Neil Beulecke — Managing Director. 20+ years in network security. Started Layer7 because he believed South African organisations deserved access to the same calibre of security engineering available in global markets, delivered by people who understand the local landscape.
The rest of the team spans security engineering, SOC operations, professional services, and client success. Everyone is technical. Everyone touches real infrastructure. There are no account managers reading scripts.
