Packeteer - Adaptive Nertwork Management over MPLS
Packeteer
supports both FRAD (Frame Relay Access Device) & MPLS management.
Packeteer have introduced Adaptive Network Management via MPLS. Adaptive
Network Management means that, based on the response time of an application
(as Packeteer is a true Layer 7 device) a Packeteer will dynamically change
the MPLS tag to a higher class of service, until the response time is
restored in the lower class. Consider
the following as an example to reduce costs & create headroom on a
clients wide area network:
- The client
creates three or four levels of service across their MPLS network, such
as Platinum, Gold, Silver & Bronze.
- The cost of the Platinum class is typically billed at a premium, in
contrast to the bronze class which would be relatively inexpensive to
attract greater use of the class.
- Bronze would have the greatest partition in terms of capacity of the
available bandwidth, in contrast to Platinum.
- Bronze would have the highest contention ratio in terms of applications
within it.
- If SLA's are agreed to by business & networks to carry applications
across the MPLS network based on a guaranteed response time. (example:
the application response time for "ERP" of 3 seconds will guaranteed
be across the clients network 98% of the time)
- Last, but most important! Networks must be able to report on the response
time of application delivery across the network on-the-fly, as well as
weekly & monthly reporting for the business. Billing of the application
across the MPLS network may also be a consideration.
In a PacketShaper
managed & compressed environment all applications could be placed
in the inexpensive bronze class with the highest contention ratio. Only
when application response times diminish within the Bronze class will
applications be increased to higher classes of services by the PacketShaper
based on a predetermined priority, (from 0 - 7)
The, application's priority and MPLS tag
can be dynamically
increased through each MPLS class until the application SLA is met. The
Packeteer monitors the lower classes, & restores the application to
the bronze class once the response time criteria are met.
Each PacketShaper
monitors each individual application & reports on the response time
of the application, as well the utilization of each application besides
the compression win-back.

WAN administrators will take delight with the functionally of the Packeteer 1200. This unique appliance provides control over network bandwidth an enterprise environment. If your company has multiple locations that require remote offices to use resources based at the corporate office, this device provides the insurance of a good quality of service and network availability and network availability for mission critical applications - ITWeek Editors Choice
Packeteer- SkyX Accelerator - Accelerate Network Application Performance
Speed Network Delivery; When applications bog down, it often takes more than added bandwidth to get there faster. TCP protocol design, high latency, and lost packets hinder an application's ability to ramp to required connection speeds. SkyX overcomes these issues – including inherent TCP limitations – to ramp flows, fully utilize links, and keep information moving at the speed of business. SkyX gets the most out of your link, using bandwidth's full potential to accelerate WAN application performance across the enterprise. - Packeteer
Packeteer- The Packeteer All-in-One Advantage for WAN Application Optimisation
With over 40,000 successfully installed systems t over 7,000 customers worldwide, Packeteer continues to dominate the WAN application optimization market. To put the company's dominance in perspective, Packeteer maintains a total marketshare three times that of its four closest competitors combined. Aside from bragging rights, what accounts for Packeteer's leadership position that has been dubbed ‘The Wan Optimization Bully” by financial analysts at Piper Jafffray? Simply put, Packeteer has matured well beyond the marketing hype brochure-ware stage of its nascent competitors. Packeteer ensures the optimal delivery and performance of critical networked applications by consolidating best-of-breed and field-proven technologies into a scalable platform that delivers. - By Mark Urban, Product Line Manger Packeteer
